The new ordinance is designed to assure the city is meeting the requirements of Gov. Jerry Brown’s April 1, 2016 Drought Executive Order, which directed water agencies to increase water efficiency standards for new landscape projects through more efficient irrigation systems, greywater usage, onsite storm water capture and by limiting the portion of landscaping that can be covered in turf.
The ordinance approved by the council Tuesday, applies only to new landscaping projects or building rehabilitation projects and does not affect existing landscaping, city staff said in a report to the council.
The ordinance also includes adjustments to the development standards to provide greater flexibility for homeowners and businesses trying to conserve water.
The complete ordinance can be viewed on the city’s website at the link found below.
The ordinance revisions are expected to take effect beginning Jan. 1, 2016. Please call the Planning Department for more information or visit the public counter during business hours.
