In the bigger picture, that means Fountain Valley is now at the 7 percent mark in its effort to reach the 20 percent water conservation goal mandated by the state. The 270-day drought period declared by the governor is scheduled to end Feb. 29, 2016.

“It’s another banner month for our community,” Public Works Director Mark Lewis said.

The City Council on May 19 declared a “Water Supply Shortage Alert” in response to the drought, Gov. Brown’s executive order and the State Water Resources Control Board's emergency regulations.

The alert requires all water customers to adjust their water use to comply with the Gov. Brown’s mandatory water conservation regulations that took effect on June 1 and will remain in effect until further notice.

In May, Fountain Valley’s water usage averaged 55.2 gallons per person per day, the lowest per capita water use in Orange County, according to state officials.
