Following City Council direction received at the Tuesday April 3rd Council meeting City staff began the process to complete an Amicus Brief in support of the Federal position on SB 54. It was discovered that the non-profit Immigration Reform Law Institute has already prepared an Amicus Brief on the topic and they were encouraging public agencies to join on as partners in the submittal. The Cities of Mission Viejo, Yorba Linda, Aliso Viejo, Escondido, and Hesperia have already joined the effort and it was recommended that the City of Fountain Valley join as well. There is no cost to join this brief and after consultation with Councilmember Larry Crandall who initially brought this item forward it was agreed that the City will join this brief. The brief is set to be submitted by Friday April 6th and will not require any City or 3rd party funds to be used to complete this task.
