A high wind warning means that wind speeds are forecasted to include wind speeds of 40 mph or greater lasting for one hour or longer, or winds of 58 mph or great for any duration. Winds can cause power outages - are you ready?
- Keep mobile devices charged
- Ensure you have flashlights with fresh batteries
- If the power does go out, turn off or disconnect appliances, equipment or electronics. Power may return with momentary "surges" or "spikes" that can cause damage
- Keep the refrigerator/freezer closed if the power is out
- If you use candles, do not leave them burning unsupervised and ensure they are completely out before leaving the house or going to bed
- If you are outside, watch for blowing debris or fallen trees and branches
- Reduce your speed while driving
- If you encounter a fallen electrical wire, DO NOT touch it, call 911
