On May 2, 2023, the City of Fountain Valley City Council adopted a resolution ending the previously declared Level 2 Water Supply Shortage and returning the City to Level 0 Normal Water Supply Conditions. As a result, outdoor watering in the City of Fountain Valley is no longer limited to 3 days per week on an assigned schedule.
This action was taken in response to California’s dramatically improved water supply conditions and Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order (N-5-23) that ended his previous request for all Californians to reduce their water use by 15% and the State Water Resources Control Board’s mandated implementation of Level 2 Water Supply Shortage restrictions by water suppliers.
During the City Council meeting, staff thanked Fountain Valley water customers for making every drop count and saving over 239 million gallons of water since July 1, 2022, when the Level 2 water restrictions took effect. That is enough water to fill 363 Olympic size swimming pools or provide water to approximately 2,190 households for a year.
The City will continue to encourage its water customers to make conservation a way of life by reminding the public of the City’s permanent water restrictions.
The State’s ban on the use of potable water for the irrigation of non-functional turf at commercial, industrial and institutional sites, including HOAs, remains in effect. Non-functional turf does not include sports fields and turf that is regularly used for human recreational purposes or for civic or community events, such as parks and school fields. The City will continue to comply with this ban by not irrigating the non-functional turf at City Hall, the Senior Center, Fire Station No. 2, the City Yard and Well No. 8.
