The City of Fountain Valley, in collaboration with Republic Services, hosted its annual Free Compost Giveaway event on Saturday, April 15, 2023, as a special thank you to Fountain Valley residents for participating in the residential green waste collection program. The event was held at the Sports Park, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and provided locally produced nutrient-rich material to the gardeners within our community. Approximately 80 cubic yards of compost was provided to the residents of Fountain Valley. We are very happy to see that our Organic Compost Giveaway was well received by Fountain Valley residents.
Organic composting is a key element of gardening. Think of gardening as a cyclical activity: you grow the food, you eat the food and, subsequently, you return the scraps to the soil for next year's plantings. It can save one money and time and can reduce one’s garden's watering and weeding needs. It also enhances the environment by recycling valuable organic resources into the earth and extending the life of our landfills.
