The City Welcomes New Staff Members

Posted on October 28, 2022 at 10:14 AM by Meghan Wishner

The City welcomed two new employees this week; Finance Director, Ryan Smith and IT Manager, Scott Kim.

Ryan Smith is the new Finance Director/City Treasurer at the City of Fountain Valley. He began his career in government finance in 2005 working as an auditor for the State of Nebraska. In 2006 he moved to Orange County and started working at the City of Aliso Viejo as an Accounting Technician, eventually working his way up through the years to becoming the City’s Financial Services Manager. In January 2021, he began working for the City of Solana Beach as the Finance Director/City Treasurer.

When he’s not crunching numbers for the City, Ryan is a big sports fan and enjoys watching soccer, NBA basketball, and college football (Go Big Red!). He also enjoys getting on the golf course, knocking around a pickleball, and building furniture in his garage.

Ryan earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Nebraska and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from California State University, Fullerton. He currently lives in Lake Forest with his wife and two amazing kids.

Scott Kim has been working at the City of El Segundo for the past 10 years, serving as both IT Manager and Acting IT director.
