On July 6, 2021, these familiar faces at the front counter and building job sites became a part of the City family. Since 2010, contract staff from Charles Abbott and Associates have handled building inspections, plan checks, and building permit processing. Earlier this year, the City Council approved bringing these functions back in-house as a cost savings and customer service measure. The City is thrilled to re-introduce three “former” long-term contract staff who have decided to become members of the City’s newest Division, the Building Division:
- Darik Doggett – Building Official. Darik has worked with Fountain Valley since 2014 and has been working in government building departments for 27 years. Darik started as a field inspector and worked his way up to a building official in 2000. Darik has experience in multiple jurisdictions including Chino Hills, Palos Verdes, Rancho Palos Verdes, Mission Viejo, Seal Beach, and Stanton. Prior to his municipal experiences, Darik worked in the construction industry for over ten years.
- Tom Konrad – Building Inspector. Tom has been working with the City for over six years and has been a building inspector for 18 years. Tom previously worked as an inspector in the cities of Laguna Beach, El Monte, Mission Viejo and Stanton and brings a wealth of construction experience and knowledge to Fountain Valley.
- Karen Briggs – Permit Technician. Karen has five years of experience as a permit technician, three of those years have been in Fountain Valley. Prior to that, Karen worked as a permit technician in the city of Mission Viejo. Karen provides a steady hand as she organizes the more than 6,000 permits the city receives each year.
We are fortunate that Darik, Tom, and Karen decided to join the City. Not only have they proven to be highly skilled, provide excellent service, and to be great team members, but each of them cares deeply about this community. Please join us in welcoming Darik, Tom, and Karen to the City!
