Interim City Manager John Sibley has appointed Captain Kevin Childe to serve as the Interim Police Chief effective June 2.

 

Captain Childe was hired by the Fountain Valley Police Department in September 1990 as a Recruit at Golden West Police Academy, and he started his career as a Police Officer on October 20, 1990.

 

He has worked Patrol, Detectives, as well as, a member of the FVPD Color Guard and SWAT Team.  For over 5 years he and his K-9 partner Hank patrolled Fountain Valley, responsible for numerous apprehensions and drug busts.  He was promoted to Captain in 2004 and has assumed command of both the Patrol Division and Support Services Division.  Captain Childe is also a recipient of the Department’s Medal for Courage for rescuing a stranded resident during a structure fire.

 

He is actively involved in the California Police Officers Association, providing leadership training to Police Officers throughout the State.  He was an Instructor at Golden West College Criminal Justice Training Center for over a decade to many Police Officers throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties.  He is a graduate of POST Command College, POST Executive Development and the West Point Leadership Program.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Education-Law Enforcement and a Master of Science degree in Emergency Services Management from Long Beach State.

 

Former Police Chief Dan Llorens retired on June 1 with the Fountain Valley Police Department and began his new career as the Assistant Police Chief with the Los Angeles World Airports Police Department.
