City Celebrates Arbor Day with Northcutt Elementary Students

Arbor Day 2020

On March 12, 2020, the City of Fountain Valley celebrated Arbor Day at Stonecress Park with over 75 students from Northcutt Elementary School. The cold weather and light rain were no match for the enthusiasm of Mrs. Rice’s 2nd and 3rd graders, Mrs. Hoang’s 3rd graders and Mrs. Patton’s 3rd and 4th graders. They listened attentively as Marco Garcia, the City’s arborist, taught them about the important role of trees in Fountain Valley, and were quick to lend a hand in planting a total of six new trees in the park.

Students also got to meet Mayor Cheryl Brothers, who was on hand to read the official Arbor Day proclamation, and Council Members Kim Constantine, Steve Nagel and Patrick Harper.

Special thanks go to Principal Ryan Loberger and the Garden Grove Unified School District who helped make this event possible.

This event is just one of the many ways the City works with the community to build awareness of the City’s urban forest of over 12,400 trees. Fountain Valley residents who want to assist with the City’s reforestation efforts, increase the curb appeal of their homes and beautify their neighborhoods can arrange to have a parkway tree planted in front of their homes for just $35. Interested residents can call 714-593-4433 for more information.
