As of January 2017, the 2016 California Building Standards Code became effective statewide for all occupancies that apply for a permit. The California Building Standards Code is adopted every three years. The codes are updated to implement new standards in result of new technology, improved safety and improved construction practices.

The Building and Safety Division ensures that construction of all buildings within Fountain Valley are built in compliance with applicable codes and standards.  The division provides plan review, permit issuance, inspections, and other building and construction-related services.

Knowledgeable city staff are available at the Fountain Valley City Hall, Building Division counter. They can also be reached by phone at 714-593-4429.   For a summary sheet of new changes to the 2016 California Building Code and other resources, please visit http://www.fountainvalley.org/393/Building-Division.
