No Grease

The holidays mean more cooking and time with family but it also means more cooking oil and grease that can get washed or thrown down the kitchen sink. The buildup of these oils in plumbing lines is the primary cause of sewer line blockages. These blockages are expensive to clean and can overflow into streets or homes damaging property and the environment.

Follow these tips to so you can spend time with your guests and not the plumber:
  • Never pour oil or grease down the sink
  • After the cooking oil and grease has cooled down, pour it in a sturdy container with a lid.
  • Scrape all dishes to remove food waste and residual grease into the trash
  • Do you plan on frying a turkey? Left over deep fryer oil can be taken to Republic at Gate 6 and thrown away for free.
Report Sewer Spills!
If you see or smell something that you think might be a sewer spill, immediately report it to the City of Fountain Valley's Public Works Department during normal working hours at (714) 593-4433, or the Fountain Valley Police Department at (714) 593-4485.
