On February 6, 2018, City Council adopted a resolution to increase the standard residential trash rate and senior discount trash rate effective immediately.

The 2018 trash rate increase and yearly CPI adjustment were requested by Republic Services in accordance with the provisions of their contract with the City of Fountain Valley. The trash rate increase is based on the annual CPI Index for Garbage and Trash Collection. Revenue generated will fund all costs associated with residential trash collection, disposal and processing, as well as compliance with regulatory agency requirements. The residential trash bill increased from the bi-monthly rate of $38.22 to the new rate of $38.84 on February 7, 2018, and will increase by the CPI Index for Garbage and Trash Collection each January 1 thereafter with the last approved increase effective January 1, 2022.

City Council also approved a resolution to increase water and sewer rates over the next five years. Pursuant to Fountain Valley City Council Resolution 9643, water and sewer rates in the City of Fountain Valley will increase effective July 1, 2018.

The water rate increase has been developed to cover increases in imported water and local groundwater costs, compliance with regulatory agency requirements, capital improvement and replacement, operations and maintenance, and administration of the Water Enterprise Fund. The sewer rate increase has been developed to cover increases in the costs of operations and maintenance, compliance with regulatory agency requirements, capital improvement and replacement, and administration of the Sewer Enterprise Fund.
